Here is the mani I did. I will also show you how I did it. Step by Step, btw, I use to love that show!
Okay, I started with 2 pretty thick coats of Limbo Bimbo & then a coat of Seche Vite.
Then I took, my shredded mani idea, that I posted about recently, and decided it's been a while since I've done a black tiped mani, and thought I should combine them both! Now, this wouldn't be my fave color combo, but I did this while at work, so I didn't have too many options.
Again using Scotch Tape, this is how I got my tape all into position, after I cut the design
Then I placed one on my nail, making sure to leave the tips uncovered, and painted the tips black.
When I removed it, this is what I got. Just repeat for your other fingers. Making sure to only do 1 nail at a time. Don't try to get them all taped off, then painted, before you remove the tape, or the polish wil dry to the tape and get pulled up upon removal.
This is your final result. It's actually quit fun, and could be teeth, if I used white as the tips, lol.
This looks amazing! Another one for my ideas folder!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Fey! I'm glad you like it :)
ReplyDeleteoh SNAP! I am in love with this. Like, for reals. And the Limbo Bimbo is making me giggle like nobody's business. I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks MC!!! OMG the name totally made me giggle too!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous I love it.

Oh YAY Keii!!!! You're very welcome
ReplyDeletegreat tutorial! this is some nail art i can get into :)
ReplyDeleteThank you kellie!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! Instead of pink and black, I did blue for the base and green for the tips and made it look like grass against the blue sky. I also added a few clouds and a sun. Great ideas, love them all!
ReplyDeleteWow, your blog is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for the nail tips, you have made my nails so much more fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat brand is the black color?
ReplyDeleteWe found your site via Pinterest. My tweens and I are having a hard time getting the tape to cut. It keeps ripping. Any suggestions? We have also tried the scrapbook scissors with no luck.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it! Thanks for inspiration
ReplyDeletethis would be cool as a Frankenstein for Halloween. just paint the base coat a green then some eyes or even leaving it plane thanks or ice cycles with blue and white. I am loving this.
ReplyDeletei love this.. but how do you get your nails to dry fast enough to put on the top coat? everytime i try it the spikes smudge :( ...
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you have to wait an obnoxious amount of time, or you can try putting it under a fan? or light? do you put it sticky side up or down?
DeleteThis is awesome!! I tried it last night, not as good as yours turned out BTW. Do you let the black completely dry before taking the tape off? I took it off I think a little too early and the pink (I used Limbo Bimbo for the "teeth" and yellow for the base) kind of ran off to the side...
ReplyDeleteHow long was the pink (base coat) dried for? x
ReplyDeleteI like ur tape tactic. Try designing nails taped to a toothpick and then apply them !!!!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone likes my video,I would love for you to share it & check out my channel !!!

this was such an awesome idea, using the tape as a stencil guide! i've never thought about doing that and i will definitely give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI was having the same problem with the tape ripping, I used painters tape (the blue stuff) and it worked great! : ) Hope that helps
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! I'll have to try this... Neat idea.
ReplyDeleteI love that black polish- what brand is it?
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't paint my fingernails often, I do give myself pedicures...and I LOVE your tape stencil ideas!! I plan on using this idea the next time I do my toes! Thanks for inspiration and for sharing all of your brilliant ideas on here!!
ReplyDeleteO.M.G. I just got crackle.I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeletewould be cute with a shimmery pea green on bottom for halloween... looks a bit like frankenstein! also, I am a kck girl myself. can't beat kansas girls :)

ReplyDeleteAmazing mani :O I wish I had the patience to do this to my own nails...
ReplyDeleteHow do cut the tape without messing up...What do i need to do...
ReplyDeleteI say get a good pair of scissors. It's the best thing you can have :)
DeleteI tried using scotch tape but I kept tearing it up so I ended up using safe release painter's tape and it worked great.
ReplyDeleteI did this today following your tutorial, and I used the same colors you did. I love it! So fun! Perfect combination of girlie and edgy. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I am so trying this today love it!!!!

ReplyDeleteokay this is awesome - I did black polish and gold tips...not perfect lines, but pretty cool...thanks
ReplyDeleteI tried this white with black tips. Unusual but really cool
ReplyDeleteThe first final result picture made me think gnome city, haha! The lighting makes the pink look almost gradient and like little lights in the houses.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
Thanks for the tutorial. I painted my nails like that today!! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool mani :) I tried to recreate this look back in April, here's the link to my take on it: http://christinaalexia.blogspot.com/2012/04/triangular-tape-mani.html
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome! I never thought of using tape, but I made watermelon nails by doing a watermelon pink color with green tips, and then I made small black dots with a sharpie (no black nail polish, lol). I did it because I was in a play and my character owned a fruit and veggie stand. I wouldn't have been able to make a perfect French without you. Thanks so much! And try out the watermelon nails. They're amazing.

Can I ask before you add the scotch tape do you have to wait until the first / under colour polish is completely dry? You then put the scotch tape on and paint on the next colour, do you then let this colour dry and then remove the scotch tape or do you remove the scotch tape the minute you've painted our nails? I.e whilst the colour is wet?
ReplyDeleteSOOOOO very neat! Saw your post on BlogHer and followed you over here. You have some really amazing nail art :)
